Hello and Welcome to my blog. My name is Natasha and I have been specializing in newborn photography for the last 9 years. Servicing the Mississagua, Caledon, Brampton and other areas of Toronto.
This addition of the blog I decided to focus on newborn photography for older newborns. The ideal time for newborn photos as most may or may not know is under 14 days. I do find many newborns around 21 days and under still do very well.
Why you may ask?
Newborns tend to be more sleepy in the first few weeks making posing more achievable. As they get older they become more alert and more awake. Newborns also curl more when they are younger as they get older they begin to stretch out, afterall being out of the womb is quite nice!
It is ideal to book your newborn session while you are still pregnant, this guarantees you will be in my calendar. My availability is often limited so being in my calendar means you will definitely be seen. What happens if baby is early or late? I tell clients to book within 14 days of your due date. If baby comes early, just send me a message and we will move your appointment up. Alternatively if baby is late we will move your appointment down.
In saying all this quite often when I am contacted baby has already been born or is already over 21 days. Older newborns can be more challenging as they tend to be more awake and alert during their sessions. They also are easily woken when moved into other positions or poses making transition more challenging.
I have photographed many older newborns through the years, some up to 8 weeks. I always set out realistic expectations going into the session as an older newborn may not do the same poses as one who is under 14 days.
Does this mean you won't get beautiful photos? Absolutely not, your baby is beautiful and I will do all I can to get beautiful photos of your baby. I do recommend keeping older newborn sessions more simple and I tend to keep them wrapped (swaddled) during their session.
